LO1: Task 2 analysis of audio visual promos: Avengers assemble.
Genre: The Genre of the movie is an Action Supernatural, as it is action packed and filled with fighting but the characters are all supernatural.
Content and Meaning: The story that came across through the trailer, is basically about all the avengers getting together to fight evil and save New York. The genre is supported straight away as soon as the trailer starts, you see people running away and fire shooting from the sky and the narrator says "War has started" connoting that the film is going to be an action movie. The first avengers that get together are Black Widow and the Hulk. The trailer shows a man explaining to Thor how he wants all the avengers to get together and use their powers, showing how the film came up with its title "The Avengers Assemble." After Thor the next avenger you see is Iron Man making his entrance by shooting up to the top of a building. You then see Captain America appear standing next to both Thor and Iron man. Before all avengers become friendly with each other you see Thor attacking Captain America at a low angle shot making his look powerful, and then Captain America Shielding himself from a high angle shot making him look weak and small. 1.27 seconds in, the character who plays the hulk says "we are not a team, we are a time bomb." connoting that they could explode after a period of time. Although he said they are not a team, 1.48 into the trailer you see the hulk saving Iron Man from falling from a building. 1.58 seconds in you see all Avengers in a group, connoting they actually are a team. The film is shown by the trailer to be very action packed and interesting.
Form: Like most trailers the first shot is an establishing shot of some buildings. The second shot is a group shot of people running away which connotes that something is attacking.
The shot is 0.42 seconds in, it is clearly computer generated. This shows that the film is based in New York, and that there is obviously being some attack of the city. I think this shot is really well made and looks effective.
This shot is the first shot you see have some of the avengers together, Thor, Ironman and Captain America are 3 of the most famous avengers, so this will make the audience very excited as it is the first clue they get that the trailer is about all the avengers. 1.12 into the trailer you see Black widow, she is going solo doing many action moves, I think this is important because it's the only female avenger and it shows many shots of her showing her power even as a female. 1.25 in shows a close up of Black Widows face looking in fear and crying, this shows that even though she is a super hero, that she still has a weak side. 1.27 looks like the Hulk and Black Widow are working as a team to save the city.
The shot above shows how good the graphics are in the film, it also shows Thor, Captain America and Black Widow working as a team, this makes it more exciting for the audience. 1.40 shows a tracking shot of some of the avengers using there powers on the street. 1.57 shows an arc shot of all the super heroes prepared to fight with their weapons, i think this is effective as it is the first and only shot of all of the avengers together in the trailer. The costumes of all the characters stand out and have it's own individuality. Black Widow consists of a black tight suit and a belt, Thor wears lots of armour and a red cape as well as carrying around a weapon that looks like a very big hammer. Captain America wears a skin tight suit in the colours of america with his matching sheild. Iron man consists of a red and gold armoured suit that contains all his powers and last of all the hulk wears shorts and shape shifts into a giant green angry looking man.
Purpose: The purpose of the trailer is to advertise Avengers Assemble to the audience.
Audience: The audience are people who like action movies and super heroes, it is stereotypically aimed at males because of the genre.
LO1: Task 2 analysis of audio visual promos: The amazing Spiderman.
Genre: The Genre of the film is clearly a super natural action film, as it involves both action and super heroes.
Content and Meaning: The story of the whole thing is basically about spiderman before the other spiderman films, it shows his past life before he met Mary Jane and mastered his powers. The start shows when he was kid and how his parents left him, and eventually develops to show him as a lonely teenager living with his aunty and uncle. The trailer portrays his awkward relationship with a girl, and how choked up and nervous he gets around her, but then it shows the relationship develop into something special as the trailer goes on. There is a change of music and you see the main character in a science lab looking around, and then when the spider appears thats when it sort of gives away that the film might be something to do with spiderman, as you can see him turning strange after being bit by it. The string he pulls from his neck looks like what a spider makes with it's web, this connotes that the spider has effected him, this is also is shown when you see him staring weird at a fly, because flies are what spiders catch in their web and eat. After this it shows the genre of action very clear, you hear loud fast music and see the main character swinging from wall to wall like a spider. You see the first appearance of spider man's famous costume for less than a second, this is when all the audience know that the film is about Spiderman.
Form: The first shot of the trailer was an establishing shot of New York, this connotes that the movie is based in New York. 0.28 seconds in it goes from a shot of a little kid looking in the window that then merges into him looking in the mirror when he's older, i think that this was one of the most effective shots in the trailer. 0.37 seconds in you see a crowd shot, with the main actor walking the opposite way in the centre, it is put into slow motion to fit with the sound track on the trailer because it is quite a slow pace melody. 0.42 is the first appearance of the main female role of the film, she turns back to look at the boy and it blurs her out and puts the focus onto him. 1.09 seconds you see a shot of the main character and a spider, this reveals the story of the film and how he turned into spiderman, i think this was a good shot because it's hard to make a spider that clear on camera. 1.30 into the trailer you see a high angle shot of the female role in the rain, because the camera angle was high it made her look small and sad, which i think is quite effective. 1.40 in you see a split second of spiderman in his famous costume, this is to show that the film is about spiderman, as it wasn't really obvious to the audience before.
The shot you see above is 1.44 in to the trailer, i think this is a very important shot because it shows how high up on the building Spiderman is. You know it is spiderman because you see spiderman's legs jump to the other building a few seconds after. You can tell the rest of the trailer is all CGI.
This shot is the last shot in the trailer, it shows the full appearance of spiderman in his costume, this intrigues the audience and makes them want to watch more.
The Costume of the male character when he is not in his spiderman suit, is simple t shirt and jeans, but when he is playing the part of spiderman he wears his famous red and blue morph suit style costume. The female role is quite a feminine character, she always has her hair quite girly, either neatly put back or down with curls, her makeup is kept simple so she doesn't look to old as she is playing a seventeen year old, and her outfits are the stereotypical fashion of a young female apart from when she is working in her science lab coat.
Purpose: The purpose of the trailer is to advertise the new Amazing Spiderman, and intrigue DC fans who like the original spiderman to watch.
Audience: The audience of the film varies, it is typically aimed at super hero lovers and people who enjoyed the past spiderman's, but i don't think it has a certain age because it is a film kids and adults love.
LO1: Task 2 Analysis of audio- visual promos- Batman the dark knight.
Genre: The genre of Batman the dark knight is an action thriller. This is because it involves lots of violence.
Purpose: The purpose of this trailer is to advertise this movie so people will watch the film. This movie is made to entertain the audience. The trailer shows clearly that it involves lots of action and drama. The movie doesn't seem boring and seems like something most people would enjoy watching.
Content and Meaning: This film is about the super villain The Joker, the Joker, bent on turning Gotham on itself and bringing any heroes down to his level. He plots to destroy Gotham and Batman using his anarchy and evil ways. At the start of the trailer The Joker is portrayed as a psycho with the strange way he talks, his makeup and how he randomly blows up buildings. A scene is shown of joker cards spread across the floor and you hear a disturbing laugh, this resembles The Joker himself. There is an army of people shown that are used to show the power of The joker, he is that dangerous that people have to guard every single corner. When it shows a a shot of The Joker in the police station it shows many different weapons he has been carrying in his pocket, connoting how deadly he is. The first close up of The joker is very effective as it shows all his scary makeup after the sound effects climaxes, and shows clearly that he is a bad guy. The scene after shows a really famous line of the joker saying "Why so serious?" whilst he says this he has a knife to someones face, this shows his psycho side. The first appearance of batman in the trailer is him holding someone down shouting "where is he!" automatically you assume this is about The Joker since the whole start of the trailer was just him destroying everything. You see masses of groups of people running away about 1:16 into the trailer showing the terror of The Joker. Another scene showing the craziness of the joker is 1:26 into the trailer when he walks into a formal event with a gun and a knife shooting bullets at the ceiling. The last scene before the title sequence is the joker saying "lets put a smile on that face." in a creepy voice and then followed by a strange laugh. I Don't think much of Batman was shown in this trailer because if you saw him defeating the joker or vice versa then it would give too much away, ruining the whole point of a trailer.
Form: The camera angles are very effective in this trailer, The first scene is a tracking shot of a vehicle moving very fast. 24 seconds in it shows an establishing shot but zooms into Batman slowly stood on top of a building, this is the first appearance of the famous super hero. The first shot of the joker is 32 seconds in and is a long shot of the joker standing in the distance. 41 seconds in shows a tracking shot from above of an establishment, this looks different to most average establishing shots. 57 seconds in shows a mid shot of the joker so you can distinctively see his face and scary looking makeup. 1:16 there is a group shot, and it looks like it is from a slight high angle. The last shot is a low angle shot of the joker, this makes the joker look powerful. The costume of batman is the original black outfit and mask. And the Joker has a distinct look to show his part of a green and purple outfit and scary makeup, other characters such as police men just have an average police suit and is kept very simple.
Audience: The target audience of this film trailer is people who like action and super heroes. It is stereotypically aimed at the majority of males and is rated a 15.
LO1: Task 2 analysis of audio visual promos: V For Vendetta
V For Vendetta.
Genre: The Genre of this film is a variety, It is mainly an action packed thriller, but the two main roles are of the opposite sex and have a romantic chemistry. You could also say it is a sci- fi film as it is a technical fiction film.
Content and Meaning: The film is about a shadowy freedom fighter with a plot to blow up the houses of parliament to make a statement like Guy Fawkes. The film is based far into the future. The trailer doesn't explain well if he is a hero or a villain and i think that is a big concept of the film, trying to figure out if he is a good guy or a bad one. He tries to overthrow Natalie Portman who plays a young woman, and use her help to succeed. The start of the trailer shows an army of people who are supporting the main character 'V' with his plot, throughout the trailer it shows different steps which will eventually reveal the masked 'V', i think this was really effective and gave a climatic effect which was supported by dramatic sounds. Towards the end you see more and more action supporting the genre of an action film.
Form: There are many different camera angles in this trailer making it look very effective. There are different shots of different parts of his feet, there is a shot of his feet and that a panning shot down his arm revealing his leather gloves, the next time you see the character it is a full body shot from the distance almost making 'V' seem like a silhouette. It then flashes to a shot of 'V' whipping out his sword connoting action, It then flickers to many different types of shots and defeating the people who are holding the young woman in hostage. Many action and torture scenes are shown and then eventually 'V' shows his masked face.
This shot on the left is the most effective shot in the whole trailer, it shows a low camera angle showing the silhouette of houses of parliament and the main character 'V' jumping off it impressively in slow motion.
After this shot you see more action and then a bunch of dead people and someone begging 'V' for mercy connoting his power. Scenes flash from Guy Fawkes to 'V' showing the change from the past to the future. The story slowly changes through out the trailer and becomes more complex, it shows 'V' and his past and how he was tortured, it then shows the same thing happening to the female role. It then shows another effective camera angle of a high angle shot of rain falling down on a the young woman, as it zooms is quickly the music has a change again and becomes more dramatic and more action appears. The costume and makeup of the female role is kept simple and feminine through out, but it becomes more boyish and scrubby when her head becomes shaved and she wears an orange sack. 'V' has a very dominant costume that stands out, he covers all his flesh due to his burns so he was all black including leather gloves and leather boots, a hat like Guy Fawkes, a black long wig and a mask with a distinct look.
The movie is to entertain the audience with an action packed thriller.
Purpose: The purpose of this trailer is to intrigue people who are into action movies to watch this movie. the dramatic music and action scenes will grasp the target audience of the films attention.
Audience: The target audience of this film is stereotypically aimed at males because of the strong violence the movie contains, there are a lot of weapons and torture involved which wouldn't be many peoples taste. The rating of this film is a 15 and i think that is mainly because of how complex it is and gory it is.

LO1: Task 2 analysis of audio visual promos: Taken
Genre: The Genre of the film Taken is clearly an action film with the amount of fighting involved. Although the film is action packed it is also a thriller, it is the sort of film that will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. When the title comes up saying 20th century Fox the screen flashes and you here a dramatic change of sound, this connotes that it is a climatic film. Films so melodramatic are usually thrillers or horrors.
Purpose: The trailer is to advertise the film, it shows the plot and story line but doesn't tell you what happens or how it ends.
Content: The story line shown is basically about a former spy who gets his daughter taken from him when she goes on holiday with her friend to Paris. The start shows the father and daughter being happy and then it flickers to a different change of emotion in his daughter. The trailer then goes into an effective split scene so you can see exactly what each character is doing. Then an important part of the film is shown, it shows his daughter being Taken which is the the main punch line of the story. Towards the end of the trailer you hear Liam Neeson saying his famous line of the film, and as he is saying it you see flickers of different scenes of the film showing some of the most action packed parts on the journey to track down the ruthless gang that abducted his daughter in order to rescue her.
Form: The trailer doesn't show many different camera angles but it shows a couple of establishing shots showing the location of Paris where his daughter got abducted and the plane setting off from America to England. The costumes worn are very simple, Liam Neeson is a former spy so his costume is mainly all black. The gang that abducted her also wear black and cover their faces so their identity isn't shown. The female roles for example the two girls and the mum have their makeup and clothes very simple and not too eye catching.
Meaning: This trailer is to intrigue people who are into action movies to watch this movie. The story of the film is also sort of a lesson, it shows young people not to be as gullible and naive because there are bad people in the world.
Audience: The target audience of this film would stereotypically be males, mainly because action movies are a manly thing, and thats why they hardly have a strong female role.
