Genre: The Genre of this film is a variety, It is mainly an action packed thriller, but the two main roles are of the opposite sex and have a romantic chemistry. You could also say it is a sci- fi film as it is a technical fiction film.
Content and Meaning: The film is about a shadowy freedom fighter with a plot to blow up the houses of parliament to make a statement like Guy Fawkes. The film is based far into the future. The trailer doesn't explain well if he is a hero or a villain and i think that is a big concept of the film, trying to figure out if he is a good guy or a bad one. He tries to overthrow Natalie Portman who plays a young woman, and use her help to succeed. The start of the trailer shows an army of people who are supporting the main character 'V' with his plot, throughout the trailer it shows different steps which will eventually reveal the masked 'V', i think this was really effective and gave a climatic effect which was supported by dramatic sounds. Towards the end you see more and more action supporting the genre of an action film.
Form: There are many different camera angles in this trailer making it look very effective. There are different shots of different parts of his feet, there is a shot of his feet and that a panning shot down his arm revealing his leather gloves, the next time you see the character it is a full body shot from the distance almost making 'V' seem like a silhouette. It then flashes to a shot of 'V' whipping out his sword connoting action, It then flickers to many different types of shots and defeating the people who are holding the young woman in hostage. Many action and torture scenes are shown and then eventually 'V' shows his masked face.
This shot on the left is the most effective shot in the whole trailer, it shows a low camera angle showing the silhouette of houses of parliament and the main character 'V' jumping off it impressively in slow motion.
After this shot you see more action and then a bunch of dead people and someone begging 'V' for mercy connoting his power. Scenes flash from Guy Fawkes to 'V' showing the change from the past to the future. The story slowly changes through out the trailer and becomes more complex, it shows 'V' and his past and how he was tortured, it then shows the same thing happening to the female role. It then shows another effective camera angle of a high angle shot of rain falling down on a the young woman, as it zooms is quickly the music has a change again and becomes more dramatic and more action appears. The costume and makeup of the female role is kept simple and feminine through out, but it becomes more boyish and scrubby when her head becomes shaved and she wears an orange sack. 'V' has a very dominant costume that stands out, he covers all his flesh due to his burns so he was all black including leather gloves and leather boots, a hat like Guy Fawkes, a black long wig and a mask with a distinct look.
The movie is to entertain the audience with an action packed thriller.
Purpose: The purpose of this trailer is to intrigue people who are into action movies to watch this movie. the dramatic music and action scenes will grasp the target audience of the films attention.
Audience: The target audience of this film is stereotypically aimed at males because of the strong violence the movie contains, there are a lot of weapons and torture involved which wouldn't be many peoples taste. The rating of this film is a 15 and i think that is mainly because of how complex it is and gory it is.
