LO1: Task 2 Analysis of audio- visual promos- Batman the dark knight.
Genre: The genre of Batman the dark knight is an action thriller. This is because it involves lots of violence.
Purpose: The purpose of this trailer is to advertise this movie so people will watch the film. This movie is made to entertain the audience. The trailer shows clearly that it involves lots of action and drama. The movie doesn't seem boring and seems like something most people would enjoy watching.
Content and Meaning: This film is about the super villain The Joker, the Joker, bent on turning Gotham on itself and bringing any heroes down to his level. He plots to destroy Gotham and Batman using his anarchy and evil ways. At the start of the trailer The Joker is portrayed as a psycho with the strange way he talks, his makeup and how he randomly blows up buildings. A scene is shown of joker cards spread across the floor and you hear a disturbing laugh, this resembles The Joker himself. There is an army of people shown that are used to show the power of The joker, he is that dangerous that people have to guard every single corner. When it shows a a shot of The Joker in the police station it shows many different weapons he has been carrying in his pocket, connoting how deadly he is. The first close up of The joker is very effective as it shows all his scary makeup after the sound effects climaxes, and shows clearly that he is a bad guy. The scene after shows a really famous line of the joker saying "Why so serious?" whilst he says this he has a knife to someones face, this shows his psycho side. The first appearance of batman in the trailer is him holding someone down shouting "where is he!" automatically you assume this is about The Joker since the whole start of the trailer was just him destroying everything. You see masses of groups of people running away about 1:16 into the trailer showing the terror of The Joker. Another scene showing the craziness of the joker is 1:26 into the trailer when he walks into a formal event with a gun and a knife shooting bullets at the ceiling. The last scene before the title sequence is the joker saying "lets put a smile on that face." in a creepy voice and then followed by a strange laugh. I Don't think much of Batman was shown in this trailer because if you saw him defeating the joker or vice versa then it would give too much away, ruining the whole point of a trailer.
Form: The camera angles are very effective in this trailer, The first scene is a tracking shot of a vehicle moving very fast. 24 seconds in it shows an establishing shot but zooms into Batman slowly stood on top of a building, this is the first appearance of the famous super hero. The first shot of the joker is 32 seconds in and is a long shot of the joker standing in the distance. 41 seconds in shows a tracking shot from above of an establishment, this looks different to most average establishing shots. 57 seconds in shows a mid shot of the joker so you can distinctively see his face and scary looking makeup. 1:16 there is a group shot, and it looks like it is from a slight high angle. The last shot is a low angle shot of the joker, this makes the joker look powerful. The costume of batman is the original black outfit and mask. And the Joker has a distinct look to show his part of a green and purple outfit and scary makeup, other characters such as police men just have an average police suit and is kept very simple.
Audience: The target audience of this film trailer is people who like action and super heroes. It is stereotypically aimed at the majority of males and is rated a 15.
